The China Society Yearbook ― Analysis and Forecast of China's Social Development 2008

This yearbook is an English translation of the 2008 Blue Book of Society, the 16th annual report on social development in China since 1992 and compiled by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. The introductory chapter gives an overview of economic and social development trends in China in 2007. Succeeding chapters address a variety of topics, including: income and consumption levels of urban and rural residents, employment in 2007 and innovative system reform, advancements in the National Health Insurance Program, security of Chinese society, prevention and punishment of corruption, an investigation of the quality of life in China, and 2007-2008 distribution of income in China. It is an extremely informative and well-written volume. Ru Xin is former vice president of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and a former research fellow at the Philosophy Research Institute of CASS.Lu Xueyi is former director of the Institute of Sociology at CASS and former president of the Chinese Sociological Association of the Academic Committee of CASS. He is currently Professor and Senior Researcher at the Institute of Sociology. Li Peilin is Director of the Institute of Sociology and Director of the Department of Sociology at the Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
