Anytime, Anywhere ― Student-Centered Learning for Schools and Teachers

Wolfe, Steinberg, and Hoffman, who are associated with a nonprofit education organization in the US that conducted the Students at the Center project, assemble seven essays on student-centered approaches to learning and the practices and research supporting it, with a focus on secondary education. Education researchers involved in the project (which commissioned the papers) present examples of student-centered teaching, classrooms, schools, and assessment in the US, then practices that support underserved populations like special needs, African American, and Latino students, in terms of technology use and teaching literacy and math. The final section considers what research in learning theory and science, motivation, engagement, and student voice reveal about learning. Two additional essays, on personalization and district-level supports, and extended versions of chapters presented at the 2012 Students at the Center Research Symposium are available online, as are audio and video clips, blogs, articles, video commentaries, and other resources.
