Price (music education, U. of Huddersfield, UK) and Savage (education, Manchester Metropolitan U., UK) draw together a group of UK music teachers and music education scholars (who were part of a curriculum development project run by the National Association of Music Educators and CfBT Education Trust) for 12 chapters on how to teach music in UK secondary schools. Their model is based around the current National Curriculum for Music, which links outside subjects, themes, and ideas from other fields. They address key concepts and processes; the benefits of a cross-curricular approach; how functional, personal, learning, and thinking skills can be taught through music; and the range, content, and curriculum opportunities sections of the National Curriculum for Music and how they can be approached in practice, including performance, the sociological impact of music, the role of the music industry and intellectual property rights, technology, working with professional musicians, and musical leadership.
