Ntelitheos (linguistics, United Arab Emirates U.) explores how Malagasy speakers, in Madagascar, turn words and even entire phrases into nominals that can then be manipulated and referred to as a single noun. He covers building morphosyntactic structure, Malagasy morphosyntax, gerundive and referential nominals, participant nominals, clausal nominals, and participant nominals and relative clauses. In addition to providing information about the Austronesian language, he offers empirical evidence to support the assertion that there is a single combinatorial component of grammar that builds morphosyntactic strings--a highly controversial issue. Dimitrios Ntelitheos, Ph.D. (2005) in Linguistics, University of California, Los Angeles, is Assistant Professor of Linguistics at United Arab Emirates University. He has published work on Malagasy, Greek, and Emirati Arabic morphological and syntactic structure and its acquisition by children.
