This volume contains ten essays from the first four years of a seminar held at High Point U. in honor of military historian Gunther E. Rothenberg, whose career focus was on early modern European history and often focused on the ability or inability of hegemonic states to project their power, the core theme of this volume. Frederick C. Schneid, Ph.D. (1993) in History, Purdue University, is Professor of History and Chair of the Department of History at High Point University. He has published extensively on the Napoleonic Wars and European warfare, including Napoleon's Conquest of Europe: The War of the Third Coalition (Praeger, 2005).
