The Missions Of James, Peter, And Paul ─ Tensions In Early Christianity

Rather than presenting a monolithic expression of early Judaic Christianity, James, Peter and Paul had clearly distinctive views on the faith they were to serve, and how they were to serve it. In this collection, contributors examine the relationship of the pivotal figure of James, the brother of Jesus, and his relationships with both Peter and Paul. In the first section, devoted to James's relationship with Peter, contributors examine the canon, the evidence in literature and artifacts, the issues of the Gentiles, leadership models and missions. In the second section, devoted to the relationship of James and Paul, topics include rhetoric, a rabbinic perspective on Galatians 2, wisdom and grace, leadership in a contemporary background, wealth, judging, rabbinic theology in James 1-2 and Paul in Romans 3-4, and the role of suffering and death in the apocalypse that was considered soon to come.
