Contributors from Canterbury Christ Church University's primary English team offer perspectives on theory and practice in the teaching of literacy in primary schools. The book aims to inspire teachers to be creative and original in their planning and teaching, within (or in spite of) the context of the UK's National Literacy Strategy and the Primary National Strategy. Sections on narrative, poetry, and non-fiction offer suggestions for exploring traditional tales, using playground games as literacy lessons, performing poetry, and enhancing children's language acquisition through nonfiction. One chapter describes an extended cross-curricular project which focused on nonfiction texts, culminating in the production of a digital video.
