This memoir of a British librarian charts his personal and professional journey from his roots in wartime London through education and marriage, library school in the early 60s, and the cataloging crisis within the British National Bibliography, offering insight on the controversies in the field during the 60s and 70s. The memoir highlights Gorman's contributions to the field, especially as editor of the 1978 Anglo-American Cataloging Rules (AACR), when he was a fellow of the British Library Association in 1979. The book is illustrated with b&w personal photos. Author Gorman served as president of the American Library Association 2005-06, and as member of the ALA Council 1991-95 and 2002-2006.
