Creation and Salvation ─ Dialogue on Abraham Kuyper Legacy for Contemporary Ecotheology

Within the context of his larger project exploring the relationship between creation and salvation as two core aspects of God's work from the perspective of the reformed tradition, Condradie (systematic theology and ethics, U. of the Western Cape, South Africa) presents an African perspective on the legacy of Kuyper (1837-1920). His topics include revisiting Kuyper's reception in South Africa, revisiting his notion of common grace, and his significance for ecotheology and the need for further reflection on creation and salvation. Then scholars of theology in the US, the Netherlands, Australia, and Germany contribute to an intercontinental dialogue touching on such matters as Kuyper in the civil sphere, some Swedish Lutheran perspectives, and promises and prospects of natural theology. Ernst M. Conradie (1962-) teaches Systematic Theology and Ethics at the University of the Western Cape in South Africa. His monographs in ecotheology include Hope for the Earth (2000), An ecological Christian anthropology (2005), Christianity and ecological theology: Resources for further research (2006) and The church and climate change (2008).
