City and her co-authors apply the concept of medical rounds as a way to improve teaching and learning. In instructional rounds, groups of teachers and administrators observe classrooms, focus on a specific problem, analyze and discuss the instruction, and recommend improvements, and here the authors outline the process of planning, organizing, facilitating, implementing, and reflecting on the rounds. They give examples of four types of networks that used them, in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Ohio, and Iowa. Elizabeth A. City is Director of Instructional Strategy at the Executive Leadership Program for Educators at Harvard University; Richard F. Elmore is the Gregory R. Anrig Professor of Educational Leadership at Harvard University; Sarah E.
