Boundaries ─ A Casebook in Environmental Ethics

This is the second edition of an introductory environmental ethics casebook first published in 2003. Fourteen case studies concerning different environmental issues from around the globe are presented along with commentary and questions for discussion. Four new cases have been added to this edition, one concerning water privatization, another on government efforts to combat global warming, and two involving barriers to teaching environmental ethics in classrooms. The original case studies have been updated. Ethical dilemmas discussed include underground nuclear waste disposal, protection of cultural traditions versus the preservation of threatened ecosystems, hydro power at the expense of free flowing rivers, and desertification in China. An appendix describes the use of the case study method to teach environmental ethics. Gudorf and Huchingson are professors of religious studies at Florida International University. Christine E. Gudorf is professor and chair of the Department of Religious Studies at Florida International University. She was a Fulbright Senior Scholar in Indonesia in 2002. She is the coauthor ofChristian Ethics: A Case Method Approach and author of Body, Sex, and Pleasure: Reconstructing Christian Sexual Ethics.

James E. Huchingson is professor emeritus in the Department of Religious Studies at Florida International University. He is the editor ofReligion and the Natural Sciences: The Range of Engagement and author of Pandemonium Tremendum: Chaos and Mystery in the Life of God.
