Introduction to Aircraft Aeroelasticity and Loads

The complex interactions of forces and loads include factors as diverse as inertia and turbulence, making designing something that will get into the air and stay there roughly equivalent to working a miracle. However, Wright (mechanical, aerospace and civil engineering emeritus, U. of Manchester) and Cooper (engineering, U. of Liverpool) have come up with simplified mathematical models to demonstrate key issues while closely describing the principles of aeroelasticity and loads for the flexible aircraft and applying them to aircraft behavior and industry practice. They include provisions for popular mathematics and simulation software as they work through vibrations of single degree and multiple degree of freedom systems along with continuous systems, and introduce steady aerodynamics, loads and controls. They consider wing flexibility, unsteady aerodynamics, flutter, aeroservoelasticity, dynamic maneuvers, turbulence, ground maneuvers, internal loads, flow aerodynamics, computational models, design and certification, and applications of basic principles.
