Improving Import Food Safety

Editor Zach (University of Wisconsin-Madison) brings together US and a few international contributors from agribusiness, law, and political science, and from food and testing industry associations, research institutions, and governments. They analyze regulatory approaches to food safety at the federal and state levels in the US and a few selected countries, and look at regulatory approaches within the food industry itself. Part 1 overviews global issues, then looks at the New York state model, the Chinese development model, and public-private partnerships in Mexico. Part 2 examines legal and regulatory structures and issues related to improving the regulation of imported foods in the US and abroad. There is also a chapter on global approaches to fraud. Part 3 describes potential strategies for improving import safety on a global level and offers guidelines for tracking and managing the next food safety crisis.
