The editors (professors of critical pedagogy, McGill U., Canada) seek to inject a critical pedagogy of social class into North American education, both because it is important for students to have an understanding of the operations of class in North American society and because class has an often hidden impact on education practices and institutions. They present 11 papers that examine the operation of corporate power and class oppression in educational outcomes, issues of class in urban science education and other curriculum, and the challenge of equitable access to the arts and museums for low-income New York City schoolchildren.
