商品簡介
Prompted in no small part by the recent political shift to the left and move away from neoliberal economic globalization in Latin America, Buffington (women and gender studies, U. of Colorado, US) and Caimari (Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Cientificas y Tecnicas, Argentina) present the ninth edition of this primary source documentary anthology, originally edited by Benjamin Keene, that takes the reader through the history of Latin America from pre-contact to the present. The anthology contains 156 documents, presented in sections covering Indian and Hispanic origins; conquest and colonization; the colonial economy and political and religious institutions; colonial society and culture; the Bourbon reforms of the late colonial era and "winds of change" (i.e. slave resistance, the Tupac Amaru Revolt, movements for democratic education, etc.); independence and its aftermath; the rise of mass politics and culture and democracy, dictatorship, and "development;" and globalization and its discontents and Latin American relations with the United States. The chapter on globalization and its discontents, which covers the recent political and economic changes mentioned above, is new to this edition and replaces the previous edition's "contesting power" chapter, which in turn has had its contents inserted into the previous chronological chapters. Each chapter contains a brief introduction contextualizing the documents and each document is also preceded by a short introduction describing provenance and context.
