Burkett and Hart-Landsberg (economics, Indiana State U. and Lewis & Clark College, respectively) present a Marxist study of East Asian economic development and the recent financial crisis. They criticize prevailing analytical approaches, especially neoliberalism and structural-institutionalism, and give extended emphasis to the case of Japan, claiming Japan's problems show a failure of the export-centered model of development.
