Four of Cicero's most attractive and original philosophical dialogues are included in this volume. Newly constituted texts of De Re Publica (including the fragments) and De Legibus are presented, together with corrected reprints of the editor's previously published texts of Cato Maior and Laelius. The texts are based on a full reconsideration of the manuscript evidence, including a re-examination of the Vatican palimpsest of De Re Publica. Every effort has been made to present them in a clear and readable form despite the poor state of the transmission; the text of De Legibus in particular incorporates a number of the editor's own emendations.
