The Routledge Companion to Disability and Media

The media help shape a range of economic, political, social, cultural, technological and attitudinal issues related to disability, and yet to date, there has not been a single definitive resource for those looking to examine the intersection of disability and media. International in scope, this new companion hopes to fill that gap. A range of leading scholars and practitioners with expertise in disability studies and media offer students and scholars alike a comprehensive survey the state of the discipline, including established research (for instance, in relation to access, and to representation of disability in the press), as well as emerging and cutting edge areas (especially social, mobile, and digital media, as well as the Internet).

Katie Ellis is a Senior Research Fellow in the Internet Studies Department at Curtin University. Her books include Disabling Diversity; Disability and New Media (with Mike Kent); Disability, Obesity, and Ageing (with Debbie Rodan and Pia Lebeck); Disability and the Media (with Gerard Goggin); and Disability and Popular Culture.

Gerard Goggin is a pioneering figure in research on disability and digital technology, through his first book, co-authored with the late Christopher Newell, Digital Disability. His other books include: Global Mobile Media; Cell Phone Culture; Routledge Companion to Mobile Media; Locative Media; Mobile Technology and Place; Internationalizing Internet Studies; Mobile Telecommuniations; and Mobile Phone Cultures. He is the inaugural Professor of Media and Communications in the Department of Media and Communications at the University of Sydney.

Beth Haller is Professor of Mass Communication at Towson University. She is the author of Representing Disability in an Ableist World.
