One of the most significant educators of the 20th century, Ralph W. Tyler (1902-94) was a strong proponent of local control of schools and was responsible for developing the "nation's report card," the National Assessment of Educational Progress. When Tyler visited the State U. of New York at Albany as a consultant, Finder (education, State U. of New York, Albany)--who was a student of Tyler's at the U. of Chicago in 1950-- served as his host; at the end of Tyler's consultancy, Finder approached Tyler about writing an account of his career. That account is presented here, based on meetings between the two men between 1986 and 1994, and a collection of 376 letters Tyler wrote to Finder between 1986 and 1992.. 作者簡介
Morris Finder is professor emeritus of English education, School of Education at the State University of New York, Albany. He is the author of many professional articles and books. He received his PhD in education from the University of Chicago, where he met Ralph W. Tyler. He has taught in universities in the United States and abroad.
