商品簡介

Twenty-six American academics and researchers contribute 11 research-based essays analyzing segregation, integration, and re-segregation in the U.S., and advances and set backs in the quest for equal opportunity in American public schooling. In particular, the text considers the legal and educational issues surrounding the end of court-ordered busing and a return to neighborhood schooling. Coverage includes the social and academic effects of desegregation over the past several decades, school racial composition trends in the era of unitary status, school districts' policy options for mitigating racial segregation, the policy and legal contexts of new student-assignment and school-improvement plans following the dismantling of districtwide desegregation plans in school districts declared unitary, the impact of resegregation on student achievement and future life choices, and the need for new directions and strategies to fulfill Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka's promises of racial integration and quality schooling. Annotation c2009 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
